GnuPG and Chksum

I am not a person to explain all the cryptographic theory that works behind pgp and chksum methods..Because I got only a C grade in the last endsem in the cryptography paper..But I can explain you how to use this tools.

When you download a zipped file you can get its corresponding chksum(MD5,sha1sum , sha224sum sha256sum ,sha384sum, sha512sum and so and so.)It will be basically a line which looks something like this
959bdb934e3a72d256bfbd0122d996a73adb5d1f gnupg-2.0.9.tar.bz2
Now just create a text file ,give some name to it say a.txt and copy the above line to it.Place the file in the same folder which contains the zipped part.Invoke the terminal(of course in linux systems) and type
md5sum --check a.txt
or
sha1sum --check a.txt
so and so depending upon the sum that u received. If ur zipped file is untampered it will return 'OK'.
So thats all about Checksum checking.

now to check signatures.
Download the signature.say let the file that contains the signature be xxxxxxxxxx.xx.sig.
Place the signature in the same folder which contains the downloaded file.
Run " gpg --verify xxxxxxxxxx.xx.sig ". If everything is fine u should get an OK message.

Thats for now......

Kill me please.........

I am so happy that I have to pen down it some where. I have been assigned the task of setting up a mail server. I started the work last wednesday, and since then I have been glued to the computer .It has been a 100% devoted work but things were not coming in my way.And I could not free my mind either, a sort of mental torture....And thanK God I finally could send a mail throug it.A desperate trial and error run has now been successfully completed..Kodos to me:)

The result of the previous sem will be announced tomorrow...Feelings? Well, its a don't care attitude right now.And it has to be the same tomorrow. After all I am 21 years old (young, even though many here call me valyettan) and its high time to get freed from such silly thoughts...

Signing off

Setting up a mail server

Its vacccation time. But I am still at the college. The task assigned to me is to set up a mail server for the institue.
Nowadays I am doing a lot of technical stuff that I plan to start a technical blog.
Or at least I should have a blog that some body reads. Its nearly two years that I have been all alone in this blog world. But should say that I am a big fan of myself..and its the reason that I continue to blog regularly.

The pending list is now

1.The anatomy of B tech curriculum in computer science
2.Falling in love with segmentation fault.
3.The great great Bulls and Bears .

Two more to it.

4.Compiler construction
5.Mail server

All the above mentioned are technical stuff. Thats why i plan of starting a technical blog.

An end and perhaps a new beginning

Its the end of another semester. And as I had stated earlier an eventful semester. And I have managed to perform extremely poor in all the exams.Cheers to me :)

But I strongly feel that I have learned more things in this semester than in any other period of my life. So no worries about GPA.Also I could find answers to almost all the questions that prompted me to take computer science. Not big things , just simple matters like how internet works, what are protocols, how a compiler works etc etc.

Now its time to some serious learning.Things are getting clearer and clearer. The saddest part is that this could have been done earlier. A waste of two years is what it counts in the end.Pavam njan........

Now should get back home tomorrow..missing amma and achhan quite dearly..missing the palakkadan kattu..missing the ambalakulam and the aalthara of kuttiyamkavu bagavathy kshetram ...missing the 'saranam vilikal ' of the swamimar.....

with love
