Disruptive Businesses

Disruptive Businesses often make something hugely popular irrelevant, of course with a better value proposition!

Ola makes owning a cab irrelevant
Whatsapp made sms irrrelevant
Redbus made booking agents irrelevant
Chillr tries to make cash irrelevant
Flipkart made book stores irrelevant

Nelson Mandela Quotes

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."

"There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living."

"To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."

"It always seems impossible until its done."

"Difficulties break some men but make others. No axe is sharp enough to cut the soul of a sinner who keeps on trying, one armed with the hope that he will rise even in the end."

“I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.”

#LifeLessons

Life's most precious things are often taken for granted.

Context:  Wondering how lucky Achan is, when I see Amma prepares food, serves him, eats only after he eats and washes his dishes. Perhaps a small act of  love & care, which could be easily taken for granted when it is done everyday.

#Quotes

"Don't argue with stupids." Had known this before, could have saved a lot of energy.

#moments

Quite unbecoming of Amma today!!!.."had u been at Oracle for the last 2 years, could have made something" ..never expected it from the same lady who surprised me by saying 'Yes' without a delay of even a second, when asked for her permission to resign. :)

Had heard that life of entrepreneurship is a constant fight. But what surprised me of late is that it is a fight with oneself..it is a fight to get your thoughts correct, it is a fight to get your perspectives correct, it is a fight to get your intuition correction, it is a fight to get your actions correct and so on...

If I were to do it all again from scratch, the one thing which I would have done differently is probably spending the first three months in learning yoga, meditation and in cultivating habits which could have ensured moderation in food, sleep and exercise. Many a time, I have come close to disaster by my inability to control the thoughts. Luckily no fatal damages so far. And that is the beauty of it.You get to know yourself thoroughly and it is a tremendous self discovery!

Time and Attention

It took a long time for me to realize that the most precious things that you can give to someone is your time and attention ... :) Now trying hard to make up for the lost days...

Time and again , I have been reminded that getting into Oracle was the best thing happened in my life so far...And deciding to move out of it was the best decision I have ever made.

New Year Resolution

Any commendable achievement has two parts..A DREAM part and the real HARD WORK part...
I think I have mastered the art of dreaming in the last two years...I have tried to expand my horizons, my vision, and to refine my senses and intuition so that I can trust myself with a reasonable degree.. But dreams stay as dreams unless one is  ready to sweat it out...and this is going to be the biggest challenge for me...to put in the sheer man hours...

All through my student life, I remember, hard work has always been looked down ...Those were the 'smart kids' who could score well in tests without studying much..Perhaps the only period in student life where hard work was appreciated was the entrance preparation period. Elsewhere , if you put in an extra hour , you were considered as dumb...And I have been reasonable lazy through out my life...

The maximum productive hours which I could ever dream of on a given day is hardly 4 hours..Never ever have I gone more than 5 hours in my entire life...But I have seen people who could command hours at their will...people who could easily put 10-12 hours  on a consistent basis..I have seen such people go on and score 19th rank in civil service exams in their very first attempt, or perhaps score 99.94 percentile in CAT or perhaps hit 770 in GMAT.

The ability to work hard is part genetic and part cultural. I think I have been deceived in both aspects.
So this is going to be my New Year resolution...
That I should be able to 'command time and attention at my will'...That I should be able to put 10-12 hours on a consistent basis to my work..

Wishing myself good luck,
RK
